About the films
- California’s Watershed Healing is a climate-solutions film profiling immediate actions to restore California’s overstocked, wildfire-vulnerable forests to more-sustainable conditions. It documents the huge benefits that result from restoring forests to healthier densities, and what urgent actions can advance the pace and scale of forest restoration. UC’s Center for Ecosystem Climate Solutions partnered with the nonprofit Chronicles Group to tell the story of these efforts, the science behind them, and pathways that dedicated individuals and groups are pioneering.
- Beyond the Brink – California’s Watershed: This 2020 film frames the watershed challenges that are presented in more depth in California’s Watershed Healing. The documentary shows the effect the climate crisis has had on the health of California’s forested watersheds and the resulting devastation. Through expert interviews, powerful imagery, and open-sourced journalism, the film warns that there is little time to repair the damage. Without critical investments in watershed restoration, California is doomed to an evolving intensity of drought conditions, water scarcity, and an increase in devastating forest fires.
- Beyond the Brink: This documentary focuses on California’s San Joaquin Valley and the ever-increasing difficulties for farmers and the local produce industry due to drought and water scarcity. The San Joaquin Valley is representative of a global crisis due to dwindling sources of sustainable agriculture around the planet. As these agricultural “food baskets” become increasingly unable to produce for its dramatically growing population, the critical ramifications on the social fabric and our national security become obvious. The film explores a possible future world that no longer supplies enough food or water to sustain its inhabitants and the inevitable impact that is having on National and International Security,
